Upholstery Cleaning and Protection

sofaAre your sofa's looking dirty, worn and grubby?

Well help is not far away!

We use only upholstery cleaning chemicals that we believe are the best on the market today. These chemicals may cost a little more but we think that they definitely achieve better results than some other brands!

All upholstery is carefully inspected prior to cleaning. We then decide on the most suitable and appropriate cleaning process according to the type of material and degree of soiling. As an NCCA member we will advise you on how to assist in preparing the area for the furniture cleaning, but every care will be taken to protect the floor covering and surrounding furniture. At Spot The Difference we use the following cleaning methods depending on the type of upholstery to be cleaned:

  • Hot Water Extraction (HWE)
  • Low moisture

A large degree of upholstery fabrics are wet cleanable. However, some fabrics are dry clean only and others are completely non-cleanable. Therefore, we must firstly ascertain whether your upholstery is indeed wet cleanable. The information will sometimes be located on the information label on your furniture.

The following checks will be carried out during our survey:

  • We will need to know how old (approximately) the upholstery is and if and when it was last professionally cleaned.
  • Sunlight damage checks.
  • Upholstery is fragile in the fact that it is prone to the ultra violet rays in sunshine. This will cause sun damage (sun bleaching) to your furniture. Rooms with more sunlight will obviously cause more damage to your furniture than in a room, which is north facing away from direct sunlight. This damage is irreversible and we do not offer a dyeing service!
  • Next we will check for soiling.
  • This will include looking for stains and trying to determine with the client what exactly they are, if they are removable or not and so on.
  • Colour bleed or running, has water or any liquid been spilt on the upholstery and made the colours run into each other? This may indicate that caution may be required when cleaning the upholstery or that it is not wet cleanable! We will have to carryout a dye test to determine the best cause of action.
  • We will also look for damage such as tears, burns, loose or damaged trimmings, shrinkage and so on. We will ensure that the client is completely aware of these before cleaning begins!
  • We will check the condition of the skirts and valances for shoe damage or for animal abuse (such as a cat scratching, excess pet hair and so on).
  • Finally, we will need to ascertain if the upholstery will need deodorising. Unfortunately, the build up of odours such as cigarette smoke, cooking smell, human odour, animal smells and so on will all have a detrimental affect on your upholstery.
  • Quotation and further treatments. We will compile a quotation for the client and inform the customer of any further treatments which they may want to include such as Scotchgard Treatment to help protect the upholstery for longer.

Once we are happy that the items of upholstery are wet cleanable then we will produce a quotation. If the client is happy with our quotation then we will arrange to carryout the cleaning at a convenient date and time.

Upholstery Protection

living roomTo help preserve upholstery a top quality, odourless upholstery protector, which coats and protects fibres against water and oil spillages can be applied. This protection is only effective if spillages are cleaned up almost immediately. Depending on the amount of traffic on the upholstery the protection will need to be re-applied after 12-24 months or after cleaning, whichever comes first. The protection will make cleaning easier.
